Being able to control a computer using nothing but voice commands seems a long way off, an indulgent fantasy peddled by legions of tacky sci-fi flicks. Not to us Mac users, though. For us, speech recognition technology is just another string to OS X’s versatile bow. Now we’re not going to pretend that controlling your Mac using your voice is essential – it isn’t. What we are suggesting is that you can have a lot of fun playing with it and holding it up to Windows-using associates as just another example of what they’re missing. Following this tutorial will also give you a glimpse into the future of the Mac OS. Apple has already posted information on the Web about a new technology based around a spoken interface that will appear in the next major revision of Mac OS X, so gather round your Mac’s microphone and let’s journey into the future of home computing.
