How do you take time to think?

This question can be tricky if your answer is I don’t or I’ve heard of people who try something like this. How do you find time to think? Not to solve problems or put out fires, but just to think about things both big and small. I know, I know: you’re so busy every day there’s never any time for quiet reflection. Maybe on your next vacation? This is the worst form of self-deception leaders can engage in. If the leader isn’t stepping away from the day-to-day activities in their part of the business to think, who is? Ignoring the need for thinking allows seemingly healthy, active businesses to fail because of the change they never saw coming…until it was too late. Please don’t fall into that trap—it’s awfully hard to get yourself out. Here are six suggestions to help you find time to think. After you’ve practiced them for a while, you can use them, with assurance in your voice, to answer this question.

1. Make an appointment with yourself. This is the least you can do, so before another week goes by, do it! Schedule a thirty-minute, hold-my-calls, can’t-be-changed meeting with yourself and keep it. During these thirty minutes, think. Don’t write, read magazines, or clean your desk. Think. It would be great if you could do it with your office door open. Don’t let people interrupt. Tell them you’re thinking and you’ll get back to them shortly.

2. Take a walk. A short fifteen-to twenty-minute walk at an almost brisk pace will provide a great thinking environment. Since this is a short burst of thinking, why not try it with a question in mind? Not a day-to-day problem, although this works well for that, too, but a general I need to think about that some day issue. Here are some possible topics that fit this technique.

* What’s changing in our environment that we haven’t thought about?

* What new skills will our team need in the next year?

* What barriers exist to our team’s success this quarter?

3. Do your daily exercise routine without distractions. Distractions are a room full of people talking, your favorite morning or evening news show, or the video of last night’s episode of The West Wing. As you work out, let your mind wander and follow where it goes. Thinking is an amazing process that requires relinquishing control and enjoying the journey to insight. Distractionless exercise is a great opportunity to experience it.

4. Listen to Mozart. As I write this, the Mozart at Midnight CD is playing in the background. Read the book The Mozart Effect by Don Campbell for all the research, but take it from me—Mozart helps you think. You can turn flying time into thinking time if you carry earphones and Mozart with you.

5. Engage in a hobby that you enjoy and that requires repetitive movement with your hands. Here are a few I can think of that work: Woodworking. Knitting. Gardening. Painting. Playing an instrument. Golf could work if you did it alone. Hiking, again if you’re alone and if you swing your arms as you go. Ironing. (Please don’t spread this one around.) Any of those strike your fancy? It’s the repetitive nature of the hand movements that seems to trigger creative thinking. If you don’t currently do any of these or anything else that fits the criteria, try one. Don’t worry—when you find the right thing for you, you’ll know immediately.

6. Take a field trip. Go to a museum, an art gallery, or a library. Visit a mall, sit in a competitor’s parking lot, or fly a kite. Do it by yourself or take a colleague. At the end of your excursion ask yourself, What did I see or experience today that taught me something about my work or my life? Don’t push for the answer, but don’t give up too quickly. There’s always something there; you just need to think till you find it.

All of these ideas require two things: the courage to try them and tell others what you’re doing, and paper and pencil to jot down the great thoughts that will surface. Be careful—this thinking stuff can become contagious. I guarantee it.

Make Radio Station With Winamp

Must have Winamp (Any Version)

First thin’s first. Your speed has to be at least 256/64 kbps (which means Dial-up users will have alot of latency, so it wouldn’t be useful)

Secondly, you need to have a domain, an updated one with de current IP active. (Could be anythin’)

Now you need to download de Shoutcast Files.

Go to :

www.shoutcast.com

to get de files.

After downloadin’ dese, install both of them in any order. Go to START>PROGRAM FILES>SHOUTcast DNAS>EDIT SHOUTCAST DNS CONFIG.

To configure it :

Go Down to where it says

Password: change (that means your gonna have to change it to whatever, make sure you remember it)
The Portbase: Change it to whatever port you want it to be
Maxusers: (lets be realistic here, don’t put in 10000) Your bandwidth has to be extremely good, if you are usin’ cable, 50 user is de max. ADSL should stay below 10 users, and T1 connections should do whatever tickles dere fantasy.

EDIT>SAVE.

Open winamp, RIGHT CLICK>OPTIONS>PREFRENCES>DSP EFFECT> and choose de NULLSOFT SHOUTCAST.

Go to OUTPUT, and den click on Connection. In de ADDRESS, type your address which you have registered through this Code :

CODE:
www.no-ip.com

Insert de port PORT NUMBER and what ever you did in de EDIT.txt, and your password.

Then go to Encoder and choose your quality of your music. Go back to OUTPUT>OUTPUT CONFIG> YELLOW PAGES. This is your advertisemant information. Download whatever you like dere.

Now Connect. To check that your Radio on-line just go to http:// (your address that you added in de preference)

You got yourself a radio station dere!

How To Download Songs From iPod To PC

A reader points out a straightforward way for Windows users to transfer music from an iPod to your hard drive, without extra software:

1. Connect de iPod to your PC. If iTunes starts syncin’ (ie erasin’) your music automatically, hit de X in de upper right hand corner of iTunes display, to de left of de search box, to stop it.
2. In Control Panel, Portable Media Devices, double-click your iPod.
3. Navigate to de Music folder.
4. Select all de music folders, and drag and drop them into a folder on your hard drive, or directly into iTunes.

And you’re done! The iPod music folder structure is strange and inexplicable, but once you move your files into iTunes you can set it to automatically organize your folder by artist and album to clean that up. (To do this, in iTunes Edit menu, choose Preferences and in de Advanced tab, check “Keep iTunes Music Folder organized.”)

One thin’ I have noticed is that you do not need to go into de control panel. Instead just make explorer.exe show hidden folders. Then, navigate into de iPod directory, go into iPod_control, and follow step four of de article.

Google Hacks With Utilizing Search Engines

So much information is on de web, its mind bogglin’. Thankfully we have search en’ines to sift through them and catagorize them for us. Unfortunatly, dere is still so much info that even with dese search en’ines, its often a painstakin’ly slow process (somethin’ comparable to death for a hacker) to find exactly what you’re lookin’ for.

Lets get right into it.

I use google.com as my primary search en’ine because it presently tops de charts as far as de sites that it indexes which means more pertinent info per search.

1. Page translation.

Just because someone speaks anoder lan’uage doesn’t mean dey dont have anythin’ useful to say. I use translation tools like de ones found at

babelfish.altavista.com

and

world.altavista.com

to translate a few key words I am searchin’ for. Be specific and creative because dese tools arent de most accurate thin’s on de planet.

2. Directories.

These days everythin’ is about money. We have to deal with SEO (search en’ine optimization) which seems like a good idea on paper until you do a search for toys and get 5 pornsites in de first 10 results. Usin’ a sites directory will eliminate that. You can narrow your search down easily by lookin’ for de info in specific catagories. (PS google DOES have directories, dey’re at: directory.google.com)

3. Here are some tips that google refers to as “advanced”

A. “xxxx” / will look for de exact phrase. (google isnt case sensitive)
B. -x / will search for somethin’ excludin’ a certain term
C. filetype:xxx / searches for a particular file extention (exe, mp3, etc)
D. -filetype:xxx / excludes a particular file extention
E. allinurl:x / term in de url
F. allintext:x / terms in de text of de page
G. allintitle:x / terms in de html title of that page
H. allinanchor:x / terms in de links

4. OR

Self explanatory, one or de oder… (ie: binder OR joiner)

5. ~X

Synonyms/similar terms (in case you can’t think of any yourself)

6. Numbers in a range.

Lets say you’re lookin’ for an mp3 player but only want to spend up to $90. Why swim through all de oders? MP3 player $0..$90 The 2 periods will set a numeric range to search between. This also works with dates, weights, etc

7. +

Ever type in a search and see somethin’ like this:
“The followin’ words are very common and were not included in your search:”

Well, what if those common words are important in your search? You can force google to search through even de common terms by puttin’ a + in front of de denied word.

8. Preferences

It amazes me when I use oder peoples PCs that dey dont have deir google search preferences saved. When you use google as much as I do, who can afford to not have preferences? They’re located on de right of de search box, and have several options, though I only find 2 applicable for myself.

A. Open results in new browser
B. Display 10-100 results per page. (I currently use 50 per page, but thats a resolution preference, and 5X’s de default)

9. *

Wildcard searches. Great when applied to a previously mentioned method. If you only know de name of a prog, or are lookin’ for ALL of a particular file (ie. you’re DLin’ tunes) somethin’ like *.mp3 would list every mp3.

10. Ever see this?

“In order to show you de most relevant results, we have omitted some entries very similar to de X already displayed. If you like, you can repeat de search with de omitted results included.” The answer is YES. yes yes yes. Did I mention yes? I meant to.

11. Search EVERYWHERE

Use de en’ine to its fullest. If you dont find your answer in de web section, try de group section. Hell, try a whole different search en’ine. Dont limit yourself, because sometimes en’ines seem to intentionally leave results out.

ex. use google, yahoo, and altavista. search de same terms… pretty close, right? Now search for disney death. Funny, altavista has plenty of disney, but no death…hmmm.

If you’ve read this far into this tutorial without sayin’, “Great, a guy that copied a few google help pages and thinks its useful info” den I will show you WHY (besides accuracy, speed, and consistancy findin’ info on ANYTHING) its nice to know how a search en’ine works. You combine it/w your knowledge of oder protocol.

Example:
Want free music? Free games? Free software? Free movies? God bless FTP! Try this search:

intitle:”Index of music” “rollin’ stones” mp3

Substitute rollin’ stones/w your favorite band. No? Try de son’ name, or anoder file format. Play with it. Assumin’ SOMEONE made an FTP and uploaded it, you’ll find it.

For example….I wanted to find some Sepultura. If you never heard them before, dey’re a Brazilian heavy metal band that kicks ass. I started with this:

intitle:”Index of music” “Sepultura” mp3 < — nothin’
intitle:”Index of música” “Sepultura” mp3 <– nothin’
intitle:”Index of musica” “Sepultura” mp3 <– not good enough
intitle:”Index of music” “Sepultura” * <– found great stuff, but not enough Sepultura

At this point it occurs to me that I may be missin’ somethin’, so I try:

intitle:”index of *” “sepultura” mp3 <– BANG!
(and thats without searchin’ for spellin’ errors)

Also try inurl:ftp

I find that * works better for me than tryin’ to guess oder peoples mis-spellin’s.

The same method applies for ebooks, games, movies, SW, anythin’ that may be on an FTP site.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial, and I saw that recently a book and an article was written on de very same topic. I havn’t read them as of yet, but check em out, and get back to me if you feel I missed somethin’ important and should include anythin’ else.

intitle:”index of” “google hacks” ebook

Ps. I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again… BE CREATIVE.

You’ll be surprised what you can find.

Exploseek, A Simple Tool To Find Music On The Net

Why should I use Exploseek ?

Exploseek is a nice simple tool to find music on de net. We always try to improve de queries, if possible, and will update it at random times. Download Music And Video With Windows Media Player

Heres a simple trick i discovered while usin’ media player

Find a site that lets you play music or videos usin’ media player e.g. rin’tones/mp3 and so on.

When media player loads and is playin’ your music/video click File den Save Media As..

Select a place to save to and rename file if you wish but dont change File Type

Leave it as Internet Cache den click save.

Your music/video will den download quicker than normal download speed and you will den have your file in de location you set.

BUT this won’t work with every site so dont panic just try anoder

It has worked for me on several sites that allow you to listen to music or watch videos online

Download Free Music Legally

Are you scared that de RIAA is about to track you down for illegally downloadin’ son’s.
Well, here is a method of obtainin’ many son’s absolutely free that is virtually untrackable
by modern technology. This has to do with capturin’ streamin’ audio, which in many cases, believe it or not
are plain old mp3s just waitin’ for you to “download.” I have found most of de current top-40 as well as many oders you may like, so keep searchin’. The music is waitin’ for you to find it.

Step 1:

First of all, you need to find a good site that hosts streamin’ audio. My favorite that has brought me many son’s to date is www.windowsmedia.com . Some oders are just as good, but this is de site that I will be referencin’ (plus, I know you guys love to steal from Microsoft).

Step 2:

Alright, go up to de left hand corner where dere is an empty text box. This is de search box, just fill it with a son’name or artist just like you would in kazaa and click search. This will brin’ up a page with links to many websites hostin’ a stream by that artist. The ones with music notes are just that…music, this is what you want. In many cases, this is all you need. Just right click on one of de links and click “save as” to save de son’. This works if de file extension is .mp3 or .wma or .asf or well-oder known formats. If this worked, you are finished, oderwise continue readin’.

Step 3:

However, if you encounter a .asx file, dere are a few more steps you will have to endure. First of all, do exactly like de above example and save de file locally. After de file is downloaded, check to see how large de file is. If it is a large file in de megabyte range, den you should be able to play it in your favorite music program. However, if it is less than 1 kilobyte, open it as a textfile. You will den see many script commands that communicate to windows media player. Don’t worry about dese, just look for some URLs which will most likely be pointin’ to a .asf file. It will have at least one if not more. Open de new found URL in your browser and save it like in step 2 and you should be good to go. (I use Mozilla, because Internet Explorer likes to open thin’s rader than save them as I tell it)

NOTE: If any of de URLs are preceded with “mms://” instead of “http://” find anoder URL, because this technique will not work.

This technique is especially useful to avoid prosecution because streamin’ audio, and downloadin’ it appear de same to a web server, derefore you are seen as just anoder “legal” listener, so “download” away my friend and don’t blame me if this soon becomes illegal (if it isn’t already).

Step 4:

If you are picky den search for a program that will convert dese file types to mp3s. I assure you dere are many sites out dere.

If this technique does not work for some reason, dere is anoder technique which is manually recordin’ streamin’ audio, with an audio capture program. I use de one that came with my soundcard (Audigy 2ZS, great soundcard), but I would recommend it only as a last resort such as with “mms://” files. There is a degredation in quality compared to de oder formats and it records every sound your PC makes while it is recordin’ so don’t chat on AIM while recordin’ (lol I can hear random doors slammin’ now).

Discover New Music You’ll Probably Love

First off, I’ve been doin’ this for a lon’ time now. I still listen to a lot of de bands I’ve found by doin’ this. It’s really simple, but it works like a charm. I ALWAYS find cool new stuff — sometimes even bands that have been around 10 years that I never heard of.

The thin’s you need:
- (Optional) A file sharin’ program (I use limewire)
- A browser.

1.) Pick one of your favorite bands.
2.) Go to amazon.com or cdnow.com (same thin’)
3.) Look up that band’s name
4.) Scroll down until you see “Customers who bought this title also bought:”
5.) Browse through de artists you’ve never heard of in that list.
6.) Check out one of deir albums, preferably de one with highest ratin’ (in stars)
7.) Eider listen to de samples on amazon or download a son’ by them with your filesharin’ app.

If you like what you hear, repeat steps 3-7 usin’ de new band’s name.

You’ll find TONS of new music you never thought existed.

It’s a really simple way to find stuff, and I’m sure lots of you probably already do this. But for those who don’t, you’ll thank me later. It works wonders. :)

In your Grand Theft Auto Vice City / Audio folder you will see a bunch of mp3’s
